Obituary

MaryBett Townsend, a lifelong resident of Pullman, WA passed away on July 6, 2022 at the age of 81.  She was born on September 24, 1940, to James L. and Virginia (Vollmer) McMackin.  MaryBett was the 4 th generation to grow up on and farm the family homestead.  She attended school in Pullman and after graduating from Pullman High School, she attended Beauty School in Spokane, WA, graduating as a licensed Cosmetologist.  While attending school in Spokane, she met the love of her life, Adrian L. Townsend.  Adrian and MaryBett were married on April 24, 1960 and soon moved to the family homestead where they began their lives as farmers and raised their family.  She was a devoted farm wife, working side by side with her husband driving truck, tractor and even the combine.  MaryBett loved cooking and later worked as a cook for over 25 years in the Greek Housing System at Washington State University.  She quickly became known for her amazing skills in the kitchen and her cinnamon rolls became a legend throughout the community.  After retirement, MaryBett and Adrian settled into a quiet life on the homestead where she continued to enjoy cooking, working in the yard, helping her husband and attending church at Encounter Ministries in Pullman.  Preceded in death by her parents and her brother Michael J. McMackin, MaryBett is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Adrian; daughter Suzanne Wickard (husband Bruce); son Jon Townsend all of Pullman; four grandchildren, one great granddaughter and her sister-in-law Donna McMackin of Spokane, WA.  A short graveside service is planned for August 6, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the rustic family homestead cemetery.  Since MaryBett loved cooking so much, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Encounter Ministries Kitchen Fund.  Please mail your donations to Encounter Ministries, PO Box 55, Pullman, WA 99163.  On the memo line write, MB Kitchen Fund.  Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA was entrusted with arrangements.
