Obituary

Eugene Max Hubble, 80, longtime school teacher, passed away on May 16, 2024 in St. John. Max was born on July 11, 1941 to Austin and Rose Hubble in Longview, WA. he lived in Cathlamet until the 5th grade when his parents moved to St. John. He graduated in 1959 and excelled in all sports. After graduations, he attended Boise State where he played football. He finished his education at Washington State University getting his teaching degree in 1964. Max spent 30 years teaching 6th grade and coaching football. He taught in Shoreline of Seattle, San Juan District in Sacramento, Yakima School District, and St. John School District.  He married Peggy (Davis) Hubble in 1964 and they had two sons, Matt and Jon. Through the years he enjoyed working with the pee-wee basketball and track meets. He liked to play pinochle at the tavern, do crossword puzzles, and jog. He is survived by his wife Peggy at their home in St. John; his two sons, Matt (Margaret) and Jon (Becky); five grandchildren, Sara, Austin, Davis, Ava and Mason; and by his sister, Christie Hubble. He was preceded in death by his parents. A catered dessert reception to celebrate Max's life will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the St. John Community Building. He will be laid to rest at the St. John Cemetery. Memorial donations have been requested to the St. John Fire Department or EMT's, or to the St. John School Foundation.
