Obituary

Maxine Meyer, 89, of Colton, WA died Jan. 28, 2017 at Regency Assisted Living in Pullman, WA. A family graveside service will take place at St. Gall Catholic Cemetery in Colton, WA. A celebration of life gathering will take place at the Colton Booster Club on Friday, April 28, 2017 (time to be determined). Maxine was born April 11, 1927 in Viola, ID to Joseph Sr & Bessie (Maidie) Keeney. In her early years, she lived in Viola, later on moving to the Albion and Pullman area, graduating from Pullman High School in 1944. Maxine married Kenneth Meyer in Pullman on July 17, 1948, making their home in Colton, WA. Her Husband, Ken farmed for a living and in the early years Maxine would drive grain truck. One winter Maxine with a son on her lap and while pregnant, drove a tractor down the road to dislodge a truck from a snow drift. Maxine raised a family of 5 boys and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother throughout the years. Maxine loved to can fruits, jams and jellies, and was famous for her delicious homemade applesauce. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden. She was a wonderful cook, who was for the most part self-taught. Her family can still remember her wonderful chicken fried dinners every Sunday. She was always actively involved in her son's lives and never missed a sporting event, FFA or 4-H activity. She ensured that her family would take an annual summer vacation creating lots of memories. Maxine not only raised the family but also took great pride in keeping the farm books for years without a computer up until 2015. In her later years, Maxine found enjoyment in her grandchildren's activities and events, and always brought fresh baked cookies with her. Her grandchildren have fond memories of spending summer days with her playing games and making homemade cookies. Maxine was a member of St. Gall's Catholic Church; the St. Gall Altar Society as well as the Colton Grange. She and Kenneth belonged to the Jolly Good Fellows and enjoyed dancing. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Kenneth; her five sons Don (Joanne) of Moscow; Bob (Nancy) of Moses Lake; Mike (Judy) of New York; Kevin (Terrie) of Moscow; Scott (Pamela) of Genesee; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and her sister Beverly Boyd. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Joseph Keeney, Jr. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to the Colton Wildcat Booster Club, PO Box 130, Colton, WA 99113.
