Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Malcolm, on April 17, 2025 at his Pullman, WA home.  He was 79 years old.  Mike was born in Walla Walla, WA to Reeves and Arlene (Woolcutt) Malcolm.  Mike grew up and went to school in Walla Walla, graduating from high school in 1964.  After high school he attended Washington State University and received a BA in Business Administration in 1969.  While in college Mike married Gretchen Ouderkirk.  After graduation from WSU, Mike received an ROTC commission in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps.  He was stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and was honorably discharged in May of 1971.  During his service, Mike enrolled at Boston University's Overseas Master of Science in Business Administration Program and received the MS degree in May 1971.  Upon returning to Pullman in 1971, Mike was accepted in the WSU's MBA program and completed the program in 1974.  During this time Mike and Gretchen became the parents of three sons, Ian, Andrew and Adam.  While serving as a graduate staff assistant in the WSU Controllers Office, Mike began his 45-year career at WSU as an Accountant and Budget Analyst for the College of Veterinary Medicine where he served as head of Business Affairs for 44 years, retiring in January of 2018.  In 1990, Mike married Nancy Dantini and acquired two daughters, Cori and Amanda.  Nancy and Mike have remained in Pullman for many years, being blessed with having the opportunity of interacting with children and grandchildren.  During his time at WSU's College of Veterinary Medicine, Mike was an active supporter of the Affirmative Action Diversity Program/Human Relations Program.  He was also a member of the Association of Veterinary Business and Hospital Administrator of North America.  Mike was an active member of the Pullman's Golf Club, now Palouse Ridge Golf Club, and made many golfing friends there.  In 2019 he joined the Lewiston Golf and Country Club where he also made many new golfing friends.  He was a voracious reader and loved to fly fish with his children and grandchildren and his many fly fisherman friends.  Mike's great joy in life was being blessed with such a wonderful family and many great friends.  He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, golfing with his friends, and hanging out with grandkids.  Mike will be dearly missed by us all.  He is survived by his wife Nancy at their Pullman home; son Adam and wife Lisa Malcolm and granddaughter Nora of Pullman; son Andrew and wife Cindy Malcolm of Seattle, WA; son Ian and wife Sheri Malcolm and grandsons Micheal, Thomas and Tyler of Seattle, WA; daughter Cori Dantini and husband Liam Breeze and grandson Henry of Pullman; daughter Amanda Brunton and husband Jake and granddaughters Matilda, Goldie and Daisy Coleman of  Pullman; and nephew Peter Gates of Astoria, OR.  Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Gates, his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  At Mike's request, there will be no public service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA.   It was Mike's wish that memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Development Fund, or Pullman Regional Hospital.
