Mildred Jean (Millie) Heilsberg passed away September 24, 2018 in Colfax at the age of 96.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 2, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Colfax.  Burial at the Colfax Cemetery will follow the service.  Viewing will be Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Monday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Bruning Funeral

Millie Heilsberg was born March 22, 1922 at the St. Ignatius Hospital in Colfax to her parents Fred & Ruby (Aegerter) Eisinger.  She spent her early years living in the country and attending the Risbeck Country School. She and her sister would walk a mile to school every day.  Upon entering Colfax High School as a freshman, she and her family moved into town.  Millie graduated with the class of 1939.  Her love for music and dancing came at an early age as she played the saxophone and took tap dancing in school.  She loved sports and played basketball, volleyball, and baseball throughout high school.  She continued that love and followed the Colfax Bulldogs, WSU Cougars, and the Seattle Mariners.

In 1944, Millie started her working years with the Whitman County Courthouse, employed with the engineer's office, auditor's office, and the educational school district office for over 30 years.

She married Harold Heilsberg January 26, 1947.  They spent their first year of marriage in Maple Valley where Harold taught English and coached baseball at Tahoma High School.  Family meant everything to her.  Laughter and love filled the home celebrating many milestones in life.  Millie loved her flowers.  She could make anything grow and always kept her poinsettias blooming throughout the year.  Her red geraniums were her signature and every fall they were transplanted inside to bloom through the winter.  Millie stayed very active and belonged to the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Atheneum Club and various bridge groups.  She modeled for a number of years in Lewiston, Moscow, and Pullman for local dress shops.

As a lifetime member of the Colfax Golf Course, she enjoyed playing golf into her 80's.  She and Harold enjoyed many golf trips with friends throughout the Northwest and Canada.  Milllie was on the cradle roll of the First Baptist Church in 1922, with her parents and grandparents being active members of the church.  She continued her membership in the church until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harold, a sister, Dorothy Schlomer, and her parents, Fred & Ruby Eisinger.   Survivors include her daughter, Teri Heilsberg at the family farm; two nephews Greg (Sharon) Schlomer, Lacrosse and John (Kathy) Schlomer, Endicott.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitman Hospital Foundation, the First Baptist Church, or the Colfax Golf Course Foundation.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at CityView, The Courtyard, and Whitman Health and Rehab Center for their excellent care of Millie.
