Obituary

Milton “Milt” W. Klettke, born May 24, 1927, to John and Emma Klettke on the family farm in Ritzville, Washington, passed away surrounded by love and memories of a life well lived.

Milt grew up with the steady rhythms of farm life, which shaped his character with patience, reliability, and endless kindness. As a young man, he served his country as a Military Police officer in the Army during World War II, escorting Nazi war criminals to the courthouse in Nuremberg. Though he rarely spoke of it, his service reflected the quiet courage that defined him.

On April 5, 1951, Milt married Beth Scheeler, the love of his life. Together, they built far more than a home. They built a partnership that lasted over fifty beautiful years. They farmed side by side in Diamond, Washington, sharing both the hard work and the joy that came with it. Milt and Beth were active members of their church and shared a deep commitment to serving others, spreading their spirit of generosity and community to everyone they encountered. When they could slip away, they treasured time at the lake. There, Milt was known for water skiing the length of Lake Coeur d’Alene, reportedly with a Rainier beer in hand and a grin on his face.

Though Milt and Beth were not blessed with children of their own, they cherished their nieces and nephews. With infinite patience, he taught them the work of the harvest, the art of fixing anything mechanical, and the value of a job well done. His smile came easily, his jokes were plentiful, and his kindness was offered freely to everyone he met.

Milt is survived by his sister, Elinore Husek, and many beloved nieces and nephews who carry his lessons and laughter forward.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax, Washington.
