MYRTLE M FULFS

May 11, 1924 - January 25, 2026

Myrtle Marie Fulfs, 101, Pullman, WA, was born May 11, 1924 in the family farmhouse outside of Uniontown, WA to Richard D. and Catherine M. Sprenger Stout.  She passed away on January 25, 2026 at Bishop Place senior living facility in Pullman, WA.

Myrtle grew up on a farm south of Uniontown, WA.  She attended the one room Hall School and at age 17 graduated from Colton High School continuing her education at the Lewiston Business College which led to her employment as secretary with Zimmerly Air Transport at the Clarkston airport.  She then worked for Pullman First National Bank. Living in Pullman she met local farmer Robert Fulfs, and they were married on November 6, 1945. Robert and Myrtle were active members of the Grange and Moscow Elks Club. Myrtle, an expert seamstress was a Washington State Grange sewing winner.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Catholic Daughters of America.  Myrtle belonged to the Patchin' People Quilt Club and made porcelain dolls from molds, painting and sewing all of their clothing. She was also a member of the Pullman Golf Club and several Bridge clubs, playing well into her 90's.  The Robert and Myrtle Fulfs Endowed Scholarship in Animal Sciences was established at WSU for students pursuing their degrees.

At age 19 she and a friend took a Snake River excursion. She put a note into a bottle writing that she was looking for a good-looking young man of means.  56 years later a young Clarkston man found the bottle with the note intact. The Lewiston Tribune ran the story which was picked up by NBC.  Myrtle and her young man were flown to New York where they appeared on the "Today Show" with Katie Couric and Matt Lauer.

She is survived by her daughter Robynn McKean and her husband Bob; two grandchildren, Kelly Klose and Michael Robinson; two great-grandchildren Ethan Klose and Avery Klose. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Fulfs, her daughter Marilyn Robinson and her son John Fulfs.  Also, by her brothers Richard, Eugene, and John Stout, and sisters Dorothy Anderson and Fran Taufen.
