Naomi Evelyn Worthman, went to be with her heavenly Father on January 24, 2015 at 91 years of age at her Pullman home. She was born on May 25,1923 in Wagner, South Dakota to parents Gonder and August Krey, immigrants from Haderslev, Denmark. Her father worked on farms in South Dakota inventing various farm implements, and later moved the family to Manhattan, KS where he became a policeman. Naomi trained as a nurse from 1943-1946 at Kansas State University, where she met Robert Worthman, a captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps. They were married in Manhattan, Kansas on July 27,1946.
The couple traveled west from Kansas to Pullman, Washington where Robert began his teaching career at the WSU Veterinary School. Together, they raised two children, Steven and Janet. Naomi was a fine homemaker excelling in cooking, baking, and sewing for her family. Most importantly, she was a faithful caregiver. Naomi was a person who was constantly interested in others, she made many treasured friendships during the time that she lived in Pullman. She took part-time nursing work at Pullman evergreen hospital in the early years and later was employed at the college audio visual department. Her service to the WSU veterinary wives group led her to hold several official AVMA positions on state and local levels. She and Bob were founding members of Concordia Lutheran Church in Pullman, WA in the mid-1950s. After retirement, they moved in 1986 to Camano Island, WA, and later to Lacey and Wenatchee, WA.
She is survived by her son, Steven (and Sarah) Worthman of Pullman, her daughter, Janet (and Mike) Murtha, Oxnard, CA, granddaughter, Cynthia Madera and one great grandson, Ethan Madera, Shadow Hills, CA, her sisters, Alma Krey Strohm of Kansas, and Dorothy Krey Garrison of Monroe, WA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, and her brother, Norman Krey.
Naomi was admired by many for her strength, steadfast service, generosity, and loving care to all as she served the Lord Jesus throughout her life. Naomi's ashes have been buried next to Robert's in Wenatchee, WA. A memorial service is planned for later in the Spring in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA is caring for the family.
