Norma Mary Becker, longtime resident and former mayor of Colfax, passed away with loved ones by her side on May 28, 2025 at 92 years old. She will be celebrated on Monday, June 16th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Colfax with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 AM followed by a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Colfax Cemetery after Mass. A luncheon will be held in the Parish Hall approximately 30 minutes after Mass following the burial. Please feel free to attend.
Norma was born on January 4, 1933 in Uniontown, WA to Emil and Angela Portz Thill. She grew up with her two older brothers, Cecil and Wayne. Norma attended school in Uniontown, where her father ran the hardware store and her grandfather owned and operated the local saloon. She met Philip Becker, a friend of her brothers, and they later married on September 22, 1951 in Uniontown. Together, they lived in Lewiston and Clarkston for a short time before moving to Colfax in 1952.
After getting settled in Colfax, Norma waited tables at the Whitman Hotel and at the 195 Café. She also worked for Dr. Freeman as a receptionist and kept busy as a homemaker and mother to her three sons. Norma began working as a clerk for Washington Water Power in Colfax in 1965. At the time of her retirement in 1988, she was the only female district manager in the entire company. Norma served on the Colfax City Council and was elected mayor for 5 terms between January 1992 and December 2011. Norma and Flip enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, including Alaska, in their motorhome. Norma was a member of the Colfax Elks Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church, as well as various other clubs and groups. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and working in the yard, and especially loved spending time with family and friends at their place on Coeur d'Alene Lake.
Norma is survived by two sons: Keith (Pam) of Seven Bays, WA and Mike (Molly) of Colfax; her daughter-in-law Kimberly Becker of Aiken, SC; ten grandchildren: Melissa (Anthony), Marty (Jeff), Jennifer (Matt), KC (Julie), Jaci (Joseph), Vanessa, Ciara (Alex), Brent (Mena), Kelan (Shyah), and Devan (Wyatt); and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Dan in 2023, daughter-in-law Tanya in 2019, her husband Flip in 2006, and by her brothers, Cecil and Wayne.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Thrifty Grandmothers at 118 N Main St, Colfax, WA 99111.
