Norma Louise Ellsworth, 87, of Pullman passed away on Thursday May 15, 2014 at Bishop Place Assisted Living. Friends may pay their respects at Kimball Funeral Home Monday May 19 from 2-5pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm Monday evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday May 20 also at Sacred Heart with vault interment following at the Pullman Cemetery.
Norma and her twin sister were born on August 9, 1926 in Colfax, Washington to Albert and Mary (Grimigg) Modro. Norma was raised in Pullman, attending Pullman schools and graduating from Pullman High School in 1944 as class valedictorian. She then attended Washington State College (now WSU) where she obtained her Bachelor's and Pharmacy degrees in 1948.
During her junior year she met her future husband Robert "Bob" Ellsworth on a blind date set up by her brother-in-law. The couple courted for a year and were married on August 9, 1947. Bob and Norma made their home in Pullman on Webb Street, a home they lived in until relocating to Bishop Place in 2005.
Norma worked for the Agronomy Department at WSU as a lab technician, retiring in 1975. In retirement, Norma was the bulletin editor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 1976 to 1997. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society.
Norma and Bob enjoyed many activates including square dancing, picnics, card playing and fishing. They took several trips to Canada, Yellowstone, Nevada and California. After Bob's passing in 2006, Norma remained an active member of the Bishop Place community, participating in bingo, movie nights and all of the many community activities offered.
Norma is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. and Richard; grandchildren Becca and Rob (Dawn); two great grandsons Robb and Riley and step great granddaughter Hailie. She is also survived by Tracey Ellsworth, mother of granddaughter Becca. In addition, she is survived by Theta Ellsworth, mother of grandson, Rob. Also surviving are three nieces, Marilyn (Bob) Snyder, Marge (Ray) Nelson and Carol (Mark) Hatch and one nephew Carl (Judy) Evans.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents and all her siblings. Memorial contributions in Norma's honor are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
