Obituary

Norman N. St. John, longtime Zillah, WA. resident, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his daughter's home in LaCrosse, WA. at the age of 93. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Norman was born January 31, 1922 in Thief River Falls, MN. to Frank and Grace St. John. He was the youngest of six children in the family. When Norman was about ten years old the family moved to Toppenish, WA. where he continued to reside until he enlisted and served briefly in the U.S. Army in Arcadia, California. Norman married Alice Gonzalez in 1946, and they had 7 children that kept them very busy. Norman worked for various farmers before going to work for the U & I Sugar Company where he continued to work until he retired after 35 years of service. Unfortunately his wife Alice passed away in 1959. Norman went on to marry Marian Munsterman whom he had met while she was working at a local café. She had two children of her own and eventually they had 3 boys together, the family of 12 was now complete. They moved to Zillah in 1969 to a small farm of apples, grapes and asparagus. Norman enjoyed rock hunting and making jewelry, with the beautifully polished stones. He also did a lot of antique hunting with Marian for the antique store she owned. He loved to fish and always kept a large garden and they canned together as well. His biggest passion was spending time with his children and his life revolved around them. Marian passed away in 2009 after 49 years of marriage. He is survived by his 12 children; Janice Gonzalez, Seattle, WA., James St. John, LaCrosse, Carol Schreck, Zillah, Jack St. John of Toppenish, Rudy St. John of Warrenton, OR., Gene St. John, Troutdale, OR., Sherri Mabry, Toppenish, Cheryl Farmer-Petty of LaCrosse, Alice Bafus, Almira, WA., Norman St. John, Yakima, David St. John, Puyallup, WA., and Gary St. John of Zillah; 33 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
