In Loving Memory of Patricia Guernsey Martson

Patricia Guernsey Martson passed away on January 5, 2025. Born Patricia Watson in Tekoa, Washington, she was the youngest of five siblings.

Her father was a meat cutter by trade who delighted in foot races with his grandsons at every visit. Her mother worked as a clerk in Dime Stores and lovingly hand-crafted silk corsages for all of her granddaughters each Christmas and Easter.

Patricia attended schools throughout Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, consistently earning straight A's and exhibiting an early love of learning. She cherished her years spent on the Guernsey Ranch near Princeton, Idaho, where country life suited her perfectly. She separated cream from cow's milk, churned butter, and made cottage cheese. She gathered eggs, helped with butchering, and embraced the rhythm of ranch life.

Resourceful and hardworking, Patricia operated a small café inside the Onaway grocery store and later leased the Eldorado Tavern near Potlatch. She had a practical way of doing things—never afraid of rolling up her sleeves—and she brought warmth and humor to everything she did. Patricia was known for her deep appreciation of kind-hearted people and her great sense of humor.  Throughout her life, she composed many handwritten journals documenting various events with family and friends.

She leaves behind a loving circle of friends, her four children, Monte Martson of Moscow, Gary, Carmen and Patty Guernsey of Potlatch, along with six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she helped create.

A memorial dinner will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Potlatch Scenic Six Depot.

In honor of Patricia's memory, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Potlatch Fire and Ambulance, P.O. Box 63, Potlatch, ID 83855.
