Obituary

Pauline Tetrick Curtis of Hay, WA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Wenatchee.

Pollie was born to James and Frances Tetrick on June 1, 1924, the fourth of nine children in Dora, Missouri. She grew up in the Colfax area and graduated from Colfax High School in 1942. She married Cecil "Tyke" Curtis on November 17, 1945 in Seattle, Washington; they celebrated 69 years of marriage. They lived in Seattle, Colfax and Kennewick before moving to Hay where they raised their daughter Christi Curtis DeKraai.

Pollie and Tyke owned and operated Curtis Grocery in Hay, WA for 35 years. As an avid reader she also served as the Hay Librarian for many years.

Pollie treasured her role as mother and grandmother and being active in each of their lives. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hay, F.A.N. Club in Hay, TOPS, and enjoyed attending high school basketball games and other local sporting events.

In retirement, Pollie and Tyke spent 22 winters down south. They wintered in Palm Springs for 7 years before purchasing a second home in Yuma, AZ where they spent 14 years.


Pollie is survived by her husband, Tyke Curtis of Wenatchee, WA, her daughter Christi (Gordon) DeKraai of East Wenatchee, her two granddaughters Amy (Blake) O'Brien of Renton and Megan (Andy) Lusk of North Bend, Washington as well as three great-grandchildren, Patrick O'Brien, Avalyn Lusk and Tucker Lusk. She is also survived by her siblings Maxine Iverson and Norman (Florence) Tetrick of Colfax.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 in Colfax, Washington at 1:00pm at the Bruning Funeral Chapel with a reception immediately following in the Palouse River Room at the Best Western Wheatland Inn. On-line guest book is available at
