Stueckle
June 17, 1934 – April 23, 2018
Phyllis J. Stueckle, lifelong area resident, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Courtyard in Colfax. She was 83. The third-born of eight children, Phyllis was born in Colfax to Gunder and Beatrice Wigen Aune on June 17, 1934. She grew up in the Hay area with her two sisters and five brothers. She attended school in Hay through the 10 th grade and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1952. Phyllis attended college at Pacific Lutheran University for a short time. She met David Stueckle while they were in 4-H together. David enlisted in the U.S. Navy and Phyllis waited for him. They married at Selbu Lutheran Church near LaCrosse on September 11, 1955. David and Phyllis made their home along the Walla Walla highway for 10 years and then moved to the home where they lived for the rest of their lives. David farmed and Phyllis kept busy as a homemaker and mother. She loved to work in her large garden and flower beds. She also kept busy faithfully attending school functions, following many of the athletics, choir performances, and plays of her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of Country Bible Church near Dusty and taught Good News Club in LaCrosse for about 15 years. She was a member of the Farm Women's Club at LaCrosse. She and David were active members of Child Evangelism Fellowship and Washington State Farm Bureau. In later years, she found great joy in traveling to visit family and grandkids. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, David, of LaCrosse; 2 children, Doug (Cheryl) Stueckle of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and Karen (Larry) Light of Portland, Oregon; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her siblings Ann Emerson, Bud Aune, Gene Aune, John Aune and Norm Aune. She was preceded in death by her sister Corrine and her brother Dwight, as well as her parents. Graveside Services will be on Friday May 4 th at 9:30 am at the Dusty Cemetery, followed by the Memorial Service to celebrate Phyllis' life at Onecho Bible Church at 11:00 am. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Country Bible Church, Child Evangelism Fellowship, or Union Gospel Mission. Online guest book is at www.bruningfuneralhome.com
