Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Byron Crithfield Sr., aged 80, who departed peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Pullman Regional Hospital. Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Socorro "Suzie" Crithfield, of Monterrey, Mexico, whom he met during his service at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, from 1963 to 1967.

He is also survived by his loving daughter and her wife, Emily Wexler and Nancy Youngs, of Pullman, and his son, Richard "Rich" Crithfield Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Jordan and Eryan Hannafy, with great-grandchild Arshan of Pensacola, FL. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren Hailey Wexler and her fiancé, Jamey Baker, with great-grandchildren Jeanie and Dante of Pullman, and grandchildren Alexandria and Dalton Hanson of Portland, Oregon. Grandchildren Fred IV and Katie Wexler, along with great-grandchildren Freddy V, Caleb, and Allie, also of Pullman, mourn his passing. He is further survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Marvin Entel, of Clarkston, Nephew, David and his wife LeeAnne of Pasco WA and Niece Mindy Lane and Husband Tim of Anatone, WA.

Throughout his life, Rick found joy in camping, hunting, and fishing, often reflecting on his upbringing along the Snake River at Wawawai Canyon, where he spent most of his years. A skilled craftsman, Rick's workshop was his sanctuary, where he meticulously fashioned whatever was necessary to maintain the two-and-a-half-acre property he and Suzie homesteaded in 1973. He took great pride in nurturing a bountiful garden and orchard with his wife while also raising three children. Additionally, he is preceded in death by his son John Robert Crithfield, deceased 1993.

Rick cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as the companionship of friends throughout the Colton and Pullman communities. His absence leaves a void that will be felt by all who shared in his life's journey.

The Crithfield family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support offered during this difficult time.  The graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 2 PM at the Pullman City Cemetery.  Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
