RINEHART DAHMEN, 91, of Pullman, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at Bishop Place Retirement Center in Pullman, WA. Rinehart was born on the 500-acre family farm near Pierz, MN on March 15, 1922, the third child of Paul & Catherine (Weidenbach) Dahmen. He attended school in Pierz & joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940. He was assigned to a forestry post at Cass Lake, MN for one year. During WWII, Rinehart received an agricultural deferment and returned to work on the family farm. In 1945 he moved to the Palouse area of Washington and worked in various construction & farming positions in Pullman, Colton, Uniontown & Pomeroy. In 1956 he began a 26 year career at Washington State University in the dairy science department where he made ice cream and cheese at Ferdinand's Bar. In 1958 Rinehart married Virginia Morello in Grand Rapids, MI, and they lived in the family home he built in Pullman. They raised four children in Pullman and have enjoyed the family cabin on Lake Chatcolet since 1970. Rinehart's wife Virginia preceded him in death in 1997. He married VanEssa Fredrickson on Sept. 26, 1999 and she too preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters Kathy Dahmen and husband Tom Richardson of Pullman; Margee Dahmen and husband Putu Suardana of Pullman; his son Dave (Amy) Dahmen of Clackamas, OR; two brothers Erhart & Herbert Dahmen; his sister Leona Gruber; six grandchildren & 1 great grandchild. In addition to Virginia & VanEssa, Rinehart was preceded in death by a son Doug Dahmen in 1984; one brother and one sister. The Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pullman, WA. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Vault interment will follow at the Pullman Cemetery.
