Obituary

Robert G. Bafus, 79, Pullman resident and formerly of Pendleton, Oregon, passed away August 5, 2016 in Pullman surrounded by his children. Bob will be entombed at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Tumwater, Washington privately by his family on Saturday, August 20th. A Celebration of Life reception for family and friends will follow from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Waterstreet Cafe, 610 Water St., in Olympia. Bob was born July 24, 1937, in Colfax, Washington, to Robert and Lenore (Cronk) Bafus. His early years were spent on his family farm near Garfield where he developed a lifelong friendship with his cousin, Gary Cronk. The two spent many years together on their grandparents' farm and forged a tight bond. Bob started school in Steptoe until he and his mother moved to Olympia, Washington. He completed high school there, graduating from Olympia High School in 1955. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy after high school serving on the destroyer USS Hallsey Powell. Bob and Gary served in the Navy at the same time. They had very fond memories of their service and a lot of stories they've told over, and over, all these years! After the Navy, he returned to the Palouse and attended Washington State College. Bob married Star Johnson In Olympia, on June 14, 1958. They first made their home on a farm of his Dad's near Cecil, Oregon, and began their family there. Bob and Star were later divorced. Bob loved farming and enjoyed working the land wherever he was. He farmed at a family farm in Steptoe from 1962 to 1970, then moving to another near Adams, Oregon. He married Victoria Pearson at Pendleton, Oregon, on October 3, 1974, where he farmed for several more years until his retirement. Bob was an avid Cougar fan, past member of the Elks Lodge and loved to golf, winning several tournaments. They moved to Pullman five years ago to be closer to family. Bob is survived by his wife; Victoria at their Pullman home; his children; Kathi (Steve) McMillan also of Pullman, Kim (Mike) Welling of Burlington, Washington, and Rob (Renae) Bafus of Troy, Idaho; 6 grandchildren; Kyle and Kirk Magill, Jordan (Tara) Welling, Kendra (Jake) Riley, Zach and Leah Bafus, and 1 great-grandson, Aiden Magill; his step-son, Mike Beman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 3 step-grandchildren; Brittany, Amy and Jake; and by his sister, Connie Hyde of Ellensburg, Washington and brother Bud Moore of San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Dr. Troy Moore whom he adored and went on many fishing trips with to Canada that were never forgotten. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to ASPCA (aspca.org) for cruelty to animals or to Kindred Hospice in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family.
