Obituary

Robert (Bob) Harvey, 86, of Pullman, WA passed away May 8, 2025 at Pullman Regional Hospital.  Bob was born October 29, 1938 in Eunice, New Mexico to Robert & Minnie (Lee) Harvey.  He graduated in 1957 from Eunice High School.  A highlight of his time in high school was playing on the 1955-56 basketball team that won 3rd place in the New Mexico State class B tournament.

Bob became a follower of Christ as a teenager and was grateful for the pastor and people of the First Baptist Church of Eunice, NM.  Bob attended Eastern New Mexico University and graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in 1961.  He was a leader and President of the Baptist Student Union during this time.  Bob majored in Physical Education & minored in History thinking he would be a teacher and coach.  However, in his senior year Bob decided he should go to Seminary.  So, in 1961 he enrolled at Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, CA, completing his Masters' Degree in Religious Education.

During Seminary Bob met Colleen Taronoff, whom after meeting fell in love with and she accepted his proposal of marriage.  Bob and Colleen married on May 18, 1963.  He believed his first ministry assignment would be in Campus Ministry.  That did not happen immediately so Bob accepted a sixth-grade teaching assignment in Yuba City, CA.  In the fall of 1964 Bob accepted a two-year assignment as Baptist Campu Minister at the University of Arizona, where he also completed a Master Degree in Education.

The opportunity came to begin a full-time collegiate ministry at the University of Tennessee-Martin Campus from 1966-68.  Bob and Colleen did experience some difficulties' as they sought to reach African-American students.  There was a bit of backlash, however the rewards were also many as new relationships with individuals from other races were formed.  These results were very gratifying.

Bob & Colleen's family began during their time in Martin, TN where both Kim and Kevin were born.  The family moved to St. Louis, MO where Bob served nine years as city-wide Director for Baptist Campus Ministries.  In 1977 they moved to Pullman, Washington where Bob accepted the opportunity to serve as Baptist Campus Minister at Washington State University.  A position he served in for 27 years on behalf of the Northwest Baptist Convention and Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Bob retired as campus minister in 2004 and was offered a position at Emmanuel Baptist to serve as Associate Pastor to Internationals and Colleen accepted a position of a new ministry as Director of Let's Talk.  Together Bob and Colleen made six trips to China and Southeast Asia as part of their ministry.  Bob was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and received the Heritage Award from the N.W. Baptist Convention.  He enjoyed sports and playing racquetball.  He was a devoted husband father and grandfather, who cherished time spent with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife Colleen at the Pullman home; son Kevin (Brenda) Harvey; daughter Kim (Jay) Hill; his grandchildren Kayla (Justin) Wier, Branden Harvey, Brittani (Ramzi) Rebeiz, Jennifer (Colby) Sticka & Robbie (Makenna) Harvey; two great grandchildren Mac Wier & Izabella Rebeiz; his sister Beverly Sandlin.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Cobb.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life is being planned for Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman, WA.  Corbeill Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.  Memorial donations are suggested to Emmanuel Baptist Church for mission trips.  Checks can be written to EBC and designated for Bob Harvey Mission Trips.
