He and his older brother, Conrad, grew up in the same home Roger was born in. Roger graduated from Deary High School on May 25, 1955 and on May 26 th he began working for Potlatch as a log scaler. He met Bertha Hood one day through a mutual friend and they married a short while later on October 20, 1956. They lived in Deary and Avery for a short time before settling their young family in Pullman in 1960. Roger worked on the wheat farm for Bertha's parents, Bill and Doris Hood. In 1966 they moved to a farm along Estes Road and Roger and Bertha lived and farmed there for most of their lives. Roger was a lifetime member of the Elk's and MOOSE Lodges. He loved to take the family camping and floating along the St. Joe River. They also enjoyed picking huckleberries or stopping in Avery for ice cream or milkshakes. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed working with wood, particularly oak. After he retired in 2002, Roger and Bertha liked to spend winters in Yuma, Arizona and made many friends while there. Roger will be missed by many in the community but especially by his wife of nearly 62 years, Bertha, at their Pullman home; two daughters, Margo (Bob) Watkins and Margie (Gregg) Kimball both of Pullman; 7 grandchildren, Bill (Taylor) Swan, John Meshishnek, Makenzie Isenberg, Michael (Ariana) Meshishnek, Jason (Alison) Kimball, Holly (Dan) Brood and Kadie (Jake) Reeves and by 11 great-grandchildren; and by a very special family friend, Debbie Brood. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Conrad, and by his son Lanny Swan who died July 3, 2004. The family suggests memorial gifts in his memory be made to the Pullman Hospital Foundation.  Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family.
