Obituary

Ronald Raymond Hubbard, St. John resident, passed away May 12, 2017 at his home from complications of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 57. A reception will be held at the St. John Community Building on Wednesday, May 24th, at 2:00 p.m. and all are invited. Funeral and Graveside services will be kept private for the family. Ron was born February 10, 1960 in Moses Lake, Washington to David Lee and Carolyn M. Guske Hubbard. As an Army brat growing up Ron experienced many moves in a few short years. The best part of all of this was that he got to experience living in the Philippines, in Spain, Louisiana and North Carolina before his father retired and the family settled in St. John when he was a freshman in high school. He graduated from St. John High School in 1979. During his high school years, he worked in some of the St. John fertilizer plants. Ron attended Spokane Community College and learned the carpentry trade. He returned to St. John and worked alongside his cousin, Mike Webb, in the carpentry business. Ronald had a son, Nathan Hubbard, during these years. He began working as a cable installer in Spokane and eventually moved to Portland, Oregon where he continued to work in the cable industry. He married Kim Martin, who had two girls, Desi and Lauren, and they also had another daughter together. They made their home in Milwaukie, Oregon. Ron loved anything that had to do with water. He loved windsailing in the Columbia River Gorge, fishing, and spending time at his beloved Rock Lake near St. John. He often said the lake was his favorite place in the entire world. Ron and Kim later divorced and in 2011 he moved back to St. John to live. He is survived by his mother and her husband, Carolyn & Larry Hattemer of Edwall, WA; his children, Nathan Hubbard, Desi (Mike) Fink, Lauren Murdock and Rachael Hubbard; 1 grandson, Alex Fink; 2 sisters, Joyce Leifer and Laurie Enloe and by his brother, Randall Hubbard. Ron was preceded in death by his father, David. The family suggests memorial gifts to the St. John Volunteer Fire Department or the ALS Association, Evergreen Chapter, 19226 66th Avenue South L-105, Kent, WA 98032.
