Rowena M. Swan, 88, of Pullman, passed away Sept. 24, 2018 at Avalon Care Center in Pullman, WA.  Rowena was born May 28, 1930 in Wheatland, Wyoming to John & Virginia (Bookout) White.  She grew up and attended school in Wheatland, graduating from high school there.  Rowena married Dean Swan on Dec. 19, 1948 and they made their home in Laramie, WY.  The family later lived in Pendleton OR, Tucson, AZ, and Champaign Illinois while Mr. Swan worked and pursued his doctorate degree.  They moved to Pullman, WA in 1966 when Dean began his career at WSU.  Rowena was a loving wife and mother who spent her time raising the family.  When the children were older she pursued her own education culminating with a Master of Arts degree in education.  Rowena loved reading, adventure and traveling and even lived two years in Oxford, England.  Rowena and Dean loved spending time traveling the world and camping in their motor home.  She was an accomplished writer of poetry and short stories.  Rowena enjoyed animals and had a special love for her dogs.  She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman.  She is survived by her two sons John (Diana) Swan of Huntsville, AL, and Dan (Nellina) Swan of Bonney Lake, WA; her brother Victor White and her 4 grandchildren Philip, Christopher, Brian & Benjamin Swan.  Rowena was preceded in death by her husband Dean; daughter Cynthia Bruner and two grandchildren, Scotty and BJ.  The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at 11 AM at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman, WA.  Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is caring for the family.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Whitman County Humane Society.
