Cherished, loving, and ever supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ruth Dodd, passed away April 8, 2015 at the age of 104 in Colfax, WA. Ruth was born November 22, 1910, in Oldham, SD, the second of nine children of Danish immigrants Nes Jensen and Jorine Jorgensen (Rohr) Petersen. The family moved to the rural Melville, ND, area in 1916. Ruth attended Melville grade school and worked for her room and board while attending Carrington High School, graduating in 1929. She attended Valley City Teachers College.

Ruth and Francis Dodd, also of Carrington, were married in Seattle September 20, 1936. They made their home in Seattle until they moved to Colfax in 1953, where they owned and operated the Coast-To-Coast hardware store until retiring in 1973. Ruth then worked at Dickey's and Shirley's dress shops.

Ruth was a wonderful cook and gracious hostess who enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was an avid bridge, pinochle, and Rummikub player, and loyally watched Gonzega basketball. True to her character, she added beauty and nourishment to the world with her flower and vegetable gardening. Believing in giving back to the community, she volunteered for the Council on Aging, working in the kitchen at the senior citizen dinners for nearly twenty years before turning in her apron in 2012.

Ruth will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and Lee Pendergrass of Puyallup, daughter-in-law Voula Dodd of Edmonds, grandsons Christopher (Maria) Dodd of Seattle, Ian (Katie) Pendergrass of North Las Vegas, NV, Kyle (Lisyanne) Pendergrass of San Diego, CA, and great grandchildren Colton and Maxton Pendergrass of North Las Vegas, NV, Evangelia Dodd of Seattle. She is also survived by sister-in-law Margaret (Mig) Petersen of Oceanside, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Francis in 1987, son Michael in 2008, five sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015. Ruth's urn will be laid to rest at the Colfax Cemetery with her husband Francis. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
