IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth
Romine-Muir
December 24, 1932 – April 12, 2014
Ruth Romine-Muir, 81, formerly of Pullman passed away April 12, 2014 in Liberty Lake, Washington. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday May 19, 2014 at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Urn committal will follow at the Pullman Cemetery.
She was born December 24, 1932 to Guy and Vera Heckert in Buckhannon WV. She graduated from Buckhannon Upshur H.S. and shortly after married Deland Romine. For the first 20 years of her adult life Ruth was an Air Force wife and a mother of 4 who enjoyed the travels involved with military life. During this time she lived in England, Puerto Rico, Maine, Idaho and Washington. Ruth was very active in the Methodist church, and though crippled with debilitating arthritis at the age of 80 still volunteered as a greeter on Sunday mornings greeting all in the congregation with a big smile and warm handshake. It brought her great joy! Her first career was as a legal secretary, but she proved very versatile & also worked in appraisals and for an accounting firm. She liked to stay busy and even when working a 40 hour week managed to find time to sell Avon. She sold Avon for over 15 years, she was a big fan!
Ruth was a life student, she took college courses over a twenty year period and through hard work and perseverance received her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from Eastern Washington State University in 1980, it was a dream come true! In 1983 she applied for a position as house director at Sigma Kappa located at WSU, she was hired and immediately became a hard core Cougar. Over the next 10 years she worked as a house director between WSU & U of I. It was a passion of hers to work with young people, and she so loved living on campus at WSU. It was here at Pullman that Ruth met the love of her life Carl. They married in 1992, and then they went dancing! They would kick it up at clubs in Pullman and Lewiston. She loved all types of music, her favorite artists included Willie Nelson, the Grateful Dead, George Jones, the Eagles and Waylon Jennings.
Ruth and Carl relocated to Liberty Lake, WA in 2009 to be closer to family as Ruth's health deteriorated. They quickly became a fixture in the community and were regulars at McDonalds and Pizza Hut. All the employees at the Liberty Lake Safeway knew them by name and loved to visit with them. She is survived by her husband Carl Muir, daughter and son-in-law Teri and Gene Smith, son and daughter-in-law David Romine and Liz Gamel, son and daughter-in-law Scott and Shelly Romine, grandchildren Katy, Dan and Jeremy Romine, Lisa Nash, Jackie Nash-Vasquez and Carlos Vasquez. She was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Vera Heckert and her daughter Jill Wood.
