Obituary

Samuel Blake Thompson, Colfax High grad and Lewiston college student, died unexpectedly Friday, September 12, 2014 in a car accident south of Colfax. He was 20. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 20th at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Colfax. Viewing will be Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Bruning Funeral Home.

Sam was born September 19, 1993 in Colfax to Jim and Lisa (Haner) Thompson. Growing up with his two older brothers, Sam was a happy, positive child. He always had a smile on his face, was helpful and kind. He attended schools in Colfax and played soccer as a youth. He attended the AWANA youth group regularly and was also a member of the Webelo Scouts. During high school, Sam excelled at track and football. He served as co-captain of the football team his senior year. Sam was also the very enthusiastic "Captain of the Blue Crew" and always displayed a tremendous amount of school spirit. In his late teens he worked as a lifeguard at the Colfax Pool. Sam liked to go camping with his family, ride his 4-wheeler or tube and swim in the river. He also loved to play disc golf. Sam graduated from Colfax High School in 2012 and had been attending classes at Lewis Clark State College in Lewiston for the past two years studying business and leaning toward a major in criminology. At the time of his death he was employed in the deli at Rosauer's in Lewiston and was held in high regard by his co-workers there. He had a beautiful dog named "Anna" and the two shared a very special bond. He also liked to volunteer or help out with the Colfax Fireman's Toy box Drive every year and he had been a referee for the Colfax Little Guys Soccer.

Sam is survived by his parents; Jim and Lisa Thompson, Colfax; two brothers; Trenten and Troy Thompson both living in Austin, TX; his godfather, Scott Kruse of Colfax and Lindi Kruse who was just like a sister to Sam; his grandparents; Carolyn Haner of St. John, Dennis Thompson of Ritzville, Lavera Wade, Kennewick, and Al Epling of Elk River, MN; he also leaves behind aunts Jeannie (Duane) Wood of Colfax, Sondra Haner Olson of Arlington, WA, Tammi Haner and Suzi Haner both of AZ., as well as numerous cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Roger Haner. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Colfax School Track Project or to the Volunteer Fireman, Inc. in Colfax.

Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is caring for the family.
