Eugene A. "Scooter" Brannan, longtime Colfax resident, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Whitman Hospital in Colfax. He was 95. Scooter was born December 31, 1926 in Pullman, WA to Fred and Vera (Shaw) Brannan. He was raised on the farm near Onecho and attended elementary school near Union Center. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1945. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Missoula, Montana. He served for three years as a clerk typist. Following his discharge, he married Bernice Jones on January 27, 1948 in Colfax. Together they welcomed three children, Fred, Beverlee, and Sherri. Scooter farmed until 1981. He and Bernice would travel to Arizona every winter until 2000 when her health started to decline. He was an avid bowler, was a lifetime member of the Colfax Golf Course and was inducted into the Inland Empire softball hall of fame. In the fall of 2004, he started attending every softball, basketball, and volleyball game and quickly was referred to as Colfax's number 1 fan. He would even show up to practices with a snickers treat for all the players.
Scooter will be missed by many in the community but especially by his three children; Fred (Tenny) Brannan, Beverlee Brannan, and Sherri (Ross) Swan, all of Colfax, seven grandchildren; Jeff (Heather) Brannan, Gabe (Andrea) Brannan, Johnny (Asia) Nock, Kelley Nock, Katie (TJ Schmidt) Swan, Karlie (Red) McMichael, and Allie (David) Cofer, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, his parents, a brother, Harlan Brannan, two sisters, Maxine Hodge and Dorothy Harris, and by two baby daughters, Kathy and Vicki. A service to celebrate Scooters life will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Colfax High School Auditorium. A private family burial will take place at the Colfax Cemetery. A viewing will be on Thursday and Friday, February 10 th and 11 th , from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Corbeill Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorial donations can be made to the Colfax Schools Foundation, Whitman Hospital Foundation, or to the Colfax Golf Course. Corbeill Funeral Home is caring for the family.
