Shirley Lillian Lange, 93, of Pullman, WA and formerly of Moscow, ID passed away July 12, 2018 at the Kimani Adult Family Home in Pullman, WA. Shirley was born May 13, 1925 in Hampton, Virginia to Edward & Edith (Nygaard) Blair. The family moved to Prescott, AZ where she grew up on a ranch. Following high school graduation Shirley married Louis C. Ate with whom she had three daughters. They made their home for a while in Texas, Arizona and Colorado before moving to Urbana, Illinois. After the couple later divorced, she was married to Ralph Langenheim for many years. Shirley worked as an administrative secretary in the Geology and Botany Departments at the University of Illinois, retiring following a distinguished career. She moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1992. In 2007 Shirley moved to Moscow, ID to be near her daughter. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always supportive and enthusiastic. Shirley loved to travel both domestically and internationally, spending extended lengths of time in Taiwan and Iran. She was a devoted gardener and was a talented artist, working for years in different media including clay, watercolors, and colored pencils. Through the years she did volunteer work in the communities where she lived including the Boulder Philharmonic Society, the Moscow Historical Society and local garden clubs; she is dearly remembered by the many Girl Scouts who were in her troop throughout their elementary and middle school years. She is also remembered by the children of Blue Willow Preschool and their families as "Grandma Sal" who made so many of the things used in the school and helped with holiday projects. Shirley was a member of the Moscow Lions Club, where she spear-headed installation of the baby swings at Anderson Frontier Park near her house. She is survived by her daughters Judy Becker: Lynn Ate (David Ackley); Kate Sweet (David Sweet) all of Moscow ; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family wants to thank Nancy Kimani, her family, and Imelda Mbithe for their painstaking, kind, and devoted care during Shirley's stay with them. No public services are planned. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
