With Family by his side Stan passed away peacefully, December 10, 2017 at Pullman Regional Hospital. He was born Stanley Eugene Buckley in Bremerton Washington August 11, 1926 to Isaac Allen Buckley and Julia (Johnson) Buckley and Christened January 2, 1927. Many of Stan's early memories were of family gatherings; Picnics, family dinners, chores which included gardening, canning (fruits, vegetables, and meat). Stan graduated from Pullman High School (now known as the Gladish Center) in the Spring of 1944. One memory stood out for Stan in his high school years. On November of 1940, he rode with his family on the Great Northern Train "The Empire Builder" to Chicago and from Chicago they change trains and road "Mercury" steam streamliner on to Detroit to pick up the new family car.
Stan was drafted in the spring of 1945 and sworn in April 12, 1945 to the Army. After completing boot camp he boarded a troop ship to Yokohama, Japan. He spent time as a Medical Technician. He even climbed Mt Fuji. Soon after returning home from the army he started in the work force. It became obvious in the fall of 1950 that he wanted to share a very long life with Guynethia (Brown) Buckley. They were married January 6, 1951 when Guynethia's father was home from his work on a railway Mail Service. Which, coincidentally was his brother Dale's wedding date in 1942. Stan and Guynethia raised three children together Barney Buckley (1953), wife Gerianne (Shea) Buckley, Phyllis (Buckley) Zevenbergen (1963), husband Todd Zevenbergen, Rhonda (Buckley) Wallace (1965), husband Jim Wallace.
He worked for the Postal Service before working for Washington State University where he could retire in 1989 but choose to wait for Guynethia to retire. One year later they retired together in 1990. Retirement met with many trips together. One of their favorite trips was to Europe to see among other sites the "passion of the Christ" play. They were never at home Stan and Guy were helping with the voter booth, being timers and high school and college track meets, church functions, Grange and committee events or fundraisers. But the most delightful time was visiting grandchildren; Shannon Buckley (1987), Laura (Buckley)Lautenslager (1989), Kayla (Gropp) Besser (1989), David Buckley (1991), Jayme Wallace (1993), Errin Gropp (1993), Lindsey Wallace (1994), Jesse Wallace (1996), Montana Zevenbergen. Great grandchildren: Samantha Lautenslager (2011), Tucker Besser (2012), Wyatt Besser (2016).
Stan was a 7th degree member of Ewarstville Grange where he was elected into almost every office possible to hold: Master, Secretary, Lecturer, Overseer to name just a few. Stan also was very active in the Colfax fair board, he was an active member since 1980. In 2007 Stan and Guy were selected into the "Hall of Fame". In 1998 Stan helped organize the Fair Foundation which is a group that was created to make improvements to the fairgrounds. He helped organize the fair foundation dinner and silent and live auction every year at this time. His family was very important in his free time did quite extensive work and research to create his family Genealogy book. Stan mailed a copy to all family members interested.
