Sten T. Larkin, 89, passed away on September 21, 2022 at his home in Colfax, WA. He was born on May 26, 1933 in Spokane, WA to Sten and Nelsie (Thue) Larkin. He grew up in Spokane and attended school at Lewis Clark High School graduating with the class of 1951. Sten attended Washington State University for two years before he was drafted into the United States Army. He served as a cook and baker at Ellsworth Airforce Base in South Dakota. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and returned to Spokane and WSU where he completed a Bachelors Degree in animal science. Sten worked odd jobs around Pullman and Spokane before he received a teaching certificate from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, WA in 1963. He met Judith Jelsing on a blind date and they were married in Spokane on December 27, 1963. He first job teaching was in Okanogan and they began their family there with the birth on two sons. In 1967 they moved to Colfax where he taught 4 ^th and 5 ^th grades at Jennings Elementary School. They welcomed a daughter here. Sten retired in 1993 after more than 30 years teaching. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Spokane, until moving his family to Colfax. The Larkin family are members of the Peace Lutheran Church in Colfax. He was also a member of the Elks, the National Education Association, and the Washington Teachers Association, the Jaycee's club in Okanogan, Scandinavian Club, and the Sons of Norway. Sten enjoyed collecting antiques, stamps, and coins. He is survived by his wife Judy at their home in Colfax; his three children, Steve Larkin of Colfax, Scott (Debra) Larkin of Pocatello, ID, and Janel (Brian) Goebel of Colfax; two brothers, Herb and Pete (Lynn) Larkin; as well as 10 grandchildren. A private graveside service followed by a luncheon at Peace Lutheran Church will be at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2022. Corbeill Funeral Home is caring for the family.
