Stephen William Powell, 76, a long-term resident of Spokane, passed away in his home the on August 5th of natural causes. He was born to Herbert Stephen Powell, and Eleanor Joyce (Green) Powell of Spokane in April 1945. He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School Class of 63, and Eastern Washington University in 1967 with a degree in Journalism. He undertook graduate work at Washington State University and then worked as the Business/Ad Manager at the Daily Idahonian Newspaper in Moscow, Idaho. During this time he also served in the U.S. Army Reserve at the Army Reserve Center in Spokane.
He was the beloved uncle of William, Matthew, Michael, and James Powell Jr, and Bethany (Powell) Hundl; and Nathan, Joel, Ian, his wife Monique, and Isaac Skavdahl; and granduncle of Reagan, Hudson, and Owen Powell, and Scout Marin and Graysen Hundl. He is survived by a brother, James Richard Powell, CAPT, USN (Ret.) and sister-in-law Barbara (Seder) Powell of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and sister, Susan Eileen (Powell) Skavdahl and brother-in-law William Skavdahl of Pullman, WA.
Stephen was an avid car and motorcycle fan, and miniature train enthusiast. He undertook full-time care of his parents in Spokane until their passing in 2001 and 2003. He was known for an infectious sense of humor and will be missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
