Steve Allen McSweeney, 64, lifelong Colfax resident, passed away on July 23, 2015 at his home in Colfax. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds. Steve will be laid to rest at the St. John Cemetery.
Steve was born on April 3, 1951 in Colfax to Henry Allen & Frances Irene (Ratliffe) McSweeney. He grew up in Colfax and participated in many youth sports before high school. He graduated from Colfax High School with the class of 1969 and went on to study agriculture at both Yakima Community College and Spokane Community College. He returned to Colfax where he worked as a parts man at the McSweeney Tractor Company for 20 years. When the business sold and became the Colfax Grange Supply, Steve stayed on as a parts man. All told, Steve worked for over 40 years in the agriculture equipment parts business.
Steve married Delcie Furry on June 26, 1971 and that marriage brought him three sons – Shawn, Ryan and Mark. That marriage ended. In 1991, Steve married Cynthia Olson, welcoming two additional children to his family – John and Katie Cook. That marriage also ended.
Whether it was helping his dad restore a 1927 Model T Ford, rebuilding a Chevy Camaro with his son Shawn or just tinkering on his motorcycles, Steve loved anything with a motor. He spent many years driving young people to the prom in his limousine – something he looked forward to every spring. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his sons Shawn McSweeney of Colfax, Ryan (Amanda) McSweeney of Renton and Mark (Jennifer) McSweeney of Sammamish; stepchildren John and Katie Cook; father H. Allen McSweeney of Colfax; sister Linda (Leroy) Johnson of Pullman; nephews Jeffery Logan and Scott Logan as well as seven grandchildren and many friends.
Memorial contributions in Steve's honor are suggested to your local food bank. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
