Obituary

Steven Raymond Homfeldt

January 27, 1955 – April 16, 2023

Steven was born in Milwaukee WI to Henry and Rita (Sromalla) Homfeldt. He lived on the south side of Milwaukee for his early years. His passions as a kid were wrestling (WWE style) and recycling. To say it didn't stay his passion is an understatement. He was blessed to watch all 3 of his grandchildren, Ariella, Steven, and Zoey wrestle. He is survived by his daughter, Angela Campbell, and "adopted" daughter, Corinne Norman. Steven did not have a large extended family, but many knew him as dad, papa, pops, Mr.H, brother, confidant. Above all, he is "husband", to my deceased mother Diane Homfeldt (Maliszewski).

My dad was a man that I don't believe there are many left on this earth. He was the "Don't try, DO" and "No such word as CAN'T" as he always would proclaim. I remember as the let downs of the world got bigger, he would say, "the best man always finishes last, but at least I can live with myself." He always made sure people felt respected, mattered, important, even if just remembering a birthday. He was built for people. His day job was shipping and receiving which he was accomplished in his family of 3 generations of 150 years plus combined service, but his night jobs was where it was at. It included being a DJ with over 30 years starting on vinyl, tapes and cd's. Bartending which included running pool tables, dart clubs, parties, raffles, bets in hulu skirts and jumping in pools. He maintained 3 different properties for yard work during the spring, summer, fall, and then switched to snow removal in the winter. Collector of music, Green Bay Packer, Wisconsin Badger, King Kong memorabilia, wood, metal, and military posters, and pictures of people that served. All meaningful to display, honor, or to burn to be together, or for money to do these things. Rummage sales, just like recycling, dad believed you should make money with things already there and it's better to recycle if possible. He was built for small daily things that made huge impacts in people's lives. But his #1 impressive night job was to his family. He would go to great lengths for his family. His secret weapon was his creativity. He has never fit inside of a box. No rules, no coloring in the lines. He knew how to have fun, hold your hand, drop a card in the mail, but biggest thing he knew how to do was SHOW UP, and be a family man. He has endless hours on projects of visions of some of the most unique, non-expensive, romantic, and sometimes weird tactics in doing things, remembering, or celebrating but as my sister will later explain, "that's just Steve!"

Most know my father from some of the things that just made him HIM, so if you are reading this and you had the pleasure to enjoy any of these things then you were truly blessed. This is Steve - countless fires in the backyard, unique performances, church, Locust Street run, hockey games, sitting at the heater, watching the sunrise, garage parties, church festivals, talks, Wisconsin Football games, church, dancing, or having someone say and actually mean you're always welcome here.

Dad moved to Colfax, WA, into my house with James and family in 2020. Even though his retirement with my mom was a quick 4 months, then heartbreak, he stayed grounded with the support of our local community. Dad was diagnosed in 2022 with pancreatic cancer stage 3. Throughout that time, his bucket list along with treatments began happening even more. He became a hit with the hospital ladies, the grocery store employees, library staff, gas station staff, and of course our good friends that are Green Bay fans, even the Seahawk and Cougar fans. He enjoyed being able to be a full-time papa instead of a papa from across the country. He loved instilling woodworking, watching classic cartoons, and of course sci-fi films. He took anything trash and recycled it to make it beautiful, just by listening, caring, or finding out what matters. He spent his last days and hours hand in hand with me and my husband James, but he was surrounded by us all. My dad may have lost the fight with cancer, but when it comes to life and his way, he definitely won this war called; Life.
