Obituary

Susan Melanie Silsbee, 52, of Pullman passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 16, 2014. The family plans to have a service at a later date in Sue's hometown of Candor, NY. No local services are planned at this time.

Susan was born on April 6, 1962 to David & Christine (Chase) Silsbee in Fulton, New York. She grew up in Owego, New York and graduated high school in 1980 and then went on to attend the University of Buffalo where she earned her bachelor's degree in philosophy. She continued at Buffalo where she worked on and finished a few hours short of her master's degree.

She met David Grewe in 1990 in Ithaca, NY and, after a long courtship, the couple married on January 6, 1995. They lived in upstate New York, then in Illinois and eventually moved to Hartford, Connecticut where Susan worked as a copy editor for The Hartford Courant. They later moved to Syracuse so David could pursue and complete his master's degree. After David's graduation (and a year in Alabama) the couple moved and made their home in Pullman when David was hired at Washington State University.

Susan was a prolific reader, lover of music and enjoyed all things arts and culture. She was an avid sci-fi fan, particularly enjoying Star Trek and the television series Dr. Who and she was looking forward to watching this year's Christmas special episode. She enjoyed hiking and traveling around North America with David. Together they had several favorite spots in Maine, Louisiana, Colorado, Oregon, California and parts of Canada.

Susan is survived by her husband David Grewe at their home in Pullman; her loving dogs Ziggy and Neo; parents David & Chris Silsbee of Rushville, New York; sisters Marsha Jameson of South Carolina and Mary Ellen (Curtis) Connor of New York.

Memorial contributions in Susan's honor are suggested to the American Indian College Fund or Doctors Without Borders. Kimball Funeral Home & Crematory of Pullman has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
