Teresa Jane Black, 85, lifetime resident of St. John, passed away on May 21, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Village in the Spokane Valley. Private family graveside services will be held at the St. John Cemetery at a later date. Teresa was born on March 30, 1930 to L.C. & Jeanette (Roth) Lockhart at the family home near Lancaster. When she was very young the family moved into town and she and her three brothers were raised in St. John. She graduated from St. John High School with the class of 1949 and went to beautician school for a short time. She met and married Richard Black and they had one son, Marc, before later divorcing. Teresa moved back to St. John to raise Marc as a single mother while caring for her parents. She worked as a cook at various restaurants around the area including the St. John Cafe and the Wheel Inn, amongst others, before retiring in 1998. She loved working in her garden, doing crossword and other puzzles, was an avid reader and also enjoyed traveling to Arizona to visit her brother. She attended the St. John United Methodist Church. Teresa very much enjoyed living in the St. John community before the onset of Alzheimer's caused her to move the Good Samaritan Care Center in Spokane Valley where she has resided since 2007. Teresa is survived by her son Marc (Sherree) Black of St. John; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Memorial contributions in Teresa's honor are suggested to any organization that works to fight Alzheimer's or to the Good Samaritan Society of Spokane Valley. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
