Kliewer
July 24, 1954 – May 11, 2026
Thomas Kelly Kliewer, 71, passed away on May 11, 2026, in Tekoa, Washington. He was born the fourth of five children to Bob and Betty Kliewer on July 24, 1954, in Spokane, Washington. Tom lived a life marked by compassion, creativity and unbridled inquisitiveness.
Tom grew up in Spokane and graduated from Ferris High School in 1972. He pursued higher education at the University of Idaho, where he earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts, reflecting his lifelong appreciation for culture and learning. His career as a program manager for energy utilities showcased his dedication to advancing essential community services, while his passion for nature, the arts, and all manor of creatures was his constant companion.
Tom’s life with Connie began on a blind date at the Spokane Mayoral Inaugural ball at the historic Davenport Hotel. They married in May 1991, building a family filled with laughter. They were blessed with two daughters: Margeaux Kelly Kliewer and Audra Lyn Kliewer. His family was central to his life, and his pride in their accomplishments and happiness was evident to all who knew him.

His social nature brought joy and connection to those around him. Always seeking new challenges, Tom embraced life fully, engaging deeply in reading and collecting old books.
Above all, Tom was recognized for his extraordinary love for animals, especially those with special needs. He devoted much of his time to rehabilitating animals, even going so far as to craft a prosthetic beak for a chicken in need who had lost theirs. His most recent act of compassion was to bottle-feed a baby goat born in distress, demonstrating a heart dedicated to nurturing and healing. “Bug” the young goat has fully recovered and is noisily enjoying every day to its fullest.
Tom is survived by his much loved wife Connie; daughters Margeaux Kelly Kliewer (Chris) in Spokane Valley, and Audra Lyn Kliewer in Tekoa; sisters Penny Grogan (Mike) of Colorado and Patty Shook (Dan) of Idaho; brothers Bob Kliewer (Joann) and Dave Kliewer (Denise), both of Spokane; sister-in-law Penny Sczenski; brothers-in-law Keith Sczenski (Portia) and Anthony Sczenski.
