Obituary

Trudy Kay Kenny, 69, of Pullman, passed away on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at her home in Pullman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday January 16, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. both days and at the church one hour prior to funeral services.

Trudy was born in Colfax, Washington on July 18, 1944 to Raymond & Ivy (Luper) Brannon. She grew up on the family farm at Hay, Washington and attended school in LaCrosse, graduating from LaCrosse High School with the class of 1962. She attended Eastern Washington University and earned her Bachelor's degree in teaching.

After college, Trudy taught home economics and typing at Endicott High School as well as night courses in typing at the Pullman Branch of Spokane Falls Community College. In 1981, Trudy accepted a position with the College of Agriculture at Washington State University as a program coordinator. She worked within the College of Agriculture her entire university career, being promoted to better positions within the college as her skills advanced.

Because of the office driven nature of her "day job", Trudy also worked part time at Shopko in Pullman as a way to interact with people. She loved visiting with customers and friends and could be described by her family as someone who never stopped. She attended all of her grandchildren's extracurricular activities, loved going to Cougar basketball and football games and was literally a person who would give the shirt off of her back if it meant she would be helping someone else.

Trudy was an avid walking athlete, participating in a number of 5k runs around the area and attended Bloomsday every year since the mid 1980's. She would take an annual whitewater rafting trip with her co-workers and enjoyed shopping with her daughters and granddaughters. She had a sweet tooth that particularly enjoyed all types of chocolate and Tillamook vanilla bean ice cream.

The long and short of it is that Trudy was an amazing woman who will be deeply missed by her family and all that knew her.

Trudy is survived by her mother Ivy Brannon of Colfax; daughters Lynette (Peter) Schulte of Houston, Texas and Krista (Joel) Jones of Colfax; brother Wayne Brannon of Colfax and former husband Mike (Jean) Kenny of LaGrande, Oregon as well as eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Trudy's honor are suggested to Whitman County Friends of Hospice or to a charity of choice.
