Obituary

Vera May Hatley, longtime Colfax resident, passed away January 6, 2018 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. She was 81. Vera May was born June 24, 1936 at Johnson, Washington to Hazen and Edna Maxwell Hatley. She grew up on a farm near the Johnson crossroads with her older brother, Floyd, who was eight years her senior. Vera May was mentally handicapped and spent much of her life living with her family. Following the death of her father in 1969 she moved to Colfax and lived on the North Flat with her mother for about seven years. She lived for many years at the manor in housing owned by Roy McDonald until moving to Paul's Place. She also lived in the Hatley Apartments behind Arby's on Mill Street for many years and was often seen walking up and down Main Street with longtime friend Micke Hopkins. Vera May loved attending the First Baptist Church in Colfax. She loved to walk, enjoyed her coloring books and did needlepoint and stitchery crafts. She is survived by her brother Floyd and his wife JoAnn of Colfax and three nephews; Tobby, Mickey and Tim Hatley. She was preceded in death by her parents. A private family service and burial will take place in the spring at the Hatley Family Cemetery south of Pullman.
