Vera E. Williams passed away on July 19, 2018 at Whitman Hospital and Rehab Center in Colfax. She was 67. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Southside Church of Christ in Spokane. She will be laid to rest in the Spokane-Cheney Memorial Gardens cemetery. Vera was born on June 16, 1951 in Lubbock, Texas to Dwight Franklin and Margaret Ethel (Cotter) Smith. They lived in Delaware, Colorado, and Texas. She attended elementary school in Washington, where her mother and Father was divorced in 1963. Then her mother moved the family to Texas where Vera graduated from Gruver High School in Texas in 1969. In 1970 the family moved back to Washington. She lived in Medical Lake for eight years before getting married to James Williams on Sept. 10, 1978. Vera was 27. After her marriage she moved to Spokane where she had two children --- Jennifer and Sarah -- and lived for the next 28 years. She was active in the Southside Church of Christ, where she was a member for almost 40 years. In 2006 she moved to Thornton, WA, to help care for her aging mother. Vera loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a treat when she would get out to go shopping and to dinner with her family. She loved to sing. She would sing in the church assemblies, and would often sing at weddings, funerals, and once she sang with a special church choir that sang Christmas carols at Northtown. She is survived by her two children, Jennifer Kemple and Sarah Williams of Spokane; by 4 siblings, Joanna Bray, Maurice Smith, Michael Smith, and Stephen Smith; by 2 grandchildren, Clayton and J.J.; and by 3 great-grandchildren, Reagan, Junior and Paisley Jade. She was preceded in death by her husband James and by her parents. Memorial donations are suggested to Southside Church of Christ at 1225 E. Newark, Spokane, WA.
