IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Violet Mae
Hickman
November 24, 1935 – October 10, 2024
Violet Mae Hickman, longtime Colfax resident, passed away October 10, 2024 at the Colfax Cascadia Rehab Center. She was 88. She will be laid to rest privately in the Colfax Cemetery.
Vi was born November 24, 1935 in Lewiston, Idaho to William and Catherine Kouni Grasser. Her mother passed away in childbirth. Vi grew up in Clarkston and Lewiston with her father and step-mother and attended schools in the valley. She was a majorette in the Clarkston High School Band. During her senior year Vi met Larry Hickman, a cattle rancher from Almota, and they married December 18, 1954 and moved to Almota. She completed her senior year at Colfax High School; graduating June 1955.
Vi and Larry started their family in 1958 and she really enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. They moved to the family homestead near Onecho in 1964 and finally into Colfax in 1972 where she has lived since. She worked as a "candy striper" at the hospital and later on she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Bluebird Gift Shop in the hospital. She loved that job and did it for many years.
Vi liked to visit the casino on occasion and even made trips to Reno and Jackpot over the years. She loved holding yard sales and often used the money made from those to fill the slots. She was a long-time member of Community Bible Church early on. She loved the local sports teams and faithfully followed the Seahawks, Mariners, and Zags. She also rooted for Colfax High School sports and loved to keep track of her grandkids in their activities as well.
Vi is survived by two sons; Bill (Wendy) Hickman of Colfax and Bob (Tara) Hickman of Post Falls; 5 grandchildren; Buck, Tuffy, Amy, Aubree and Austin; and 3 great-grandchildren; Houston, Cashner, and Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry in 1997; by an infant daughter Connie Ray and by a granddaughter Carli. On-line guest book is at www.corbeillfuneralhomes.com
