Obituary

Virginia Hall, Steptoe resident, passed away Monday, July 2, 2018 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. She was 91. The Vigil Service will be Friday, July 6 th , at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colfax. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the church. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe.

Virginia was born on February 21, 1927 in Dimock, South Dakota to Henry and Mary Herrmann. She was the 4 th of 8 children born in to a hard working German American family. Following her education she worked in retail stores in South Dakota and for a time in California. While working in Rapid City, South Dakota she met Don Hall there. They were married on April 9, 1953. Following their marriage, Don and Virginia lived in Rincon, Puerto Rico where Don was stationed with the US Air Force. In 1954, they moved to Steptoe and began farming. Virginia was involved with her community and church serving as a 4-H leader and CCD teacher. She was a member of Steptoe Grange and Grange Auxiliary, St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Steptoe Fire Department Auxiliary.

Most of all Virginia enjoyed caring for, supporting and feeding her family, babysitting often for each of her grandchildren. She loved to crochet, to cook and bake, to travel and collect souvenir spoons. She was a huge fan of local sports teams including the Mariners and Zags.

Virginia had battled through many illnesses and surgeries in her 91 years and had always worked hard to recover and regain mobility.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Don at their home, by her children, Mike and Linda Siler, Greg and Lavonne Hall and Roger and Cindy Hall; by her 6 grandchildren; Jeff (Jessi) Hall, Stephanie (Kenny) Hall, Josh (Holly) Siler, Deanna (Ryan) Kile, Nate Siler and Natalie Hall. Also by 6 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Carter Hall, Nora and Julia Miller and Nelly and Perry Kile; by a sister, Marie Gordan, and 2 brothers, Elmer Herrmann and Charles (Shirley) Herrmann, all from South Dakota as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church Foundation, the Whitman County Library (Friends of the Library) or to the Bethel Cemetery at Steptoe.
