Obituary

Wallace Dean McCauley, passed away July 30, 2024 at his home in Dayton. He was 77. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 24th, at 11:00 AM at the United Brethren Church. Pastor Greg Brownell will officiate.

Wally was born December 28, 1946, the only child of Wallace E. "Swede" and Bernice Literal McCauley in Dayton. He grew up in Dayton and graduated from Dayton High School in 1965. Wally attended the Kinman Business School in Spokane for a couple of years following graduation. He met Marie Britts summer of 1968 in Dayton and they married on March 24, 1969 in Dayton. Wally started his grocery career working at the IGA store in Dayton for several years than helped manage the IGA store in Goldendale, Wa.

During his early years he enjoyed spending time with his grandpa Literal on the farm. He developed a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. A love he continued throughout his life. He and Marie started their family with the birth of their two daughters; Dianna and Teresa.

In 1982 Wally and Marie purchased the McQuary's Grocery Store in Dayton and they operated that together for over 38 years. Wally could often be found behind the butcher counter where he was busy cutting and wrapping meat for the day. He liked visiting with people and his customers quickly became his friends. Wally was quite the story-teller too.

In addition to hunting and fishing; he loved to trap-shoot and was a member of the Walla Walla Gun Club. Wally liked to take drives in the mountains, he had fun checking game cameras and picking huckleberries. He also enjoyed reading and cooking. In later years; Wally liked attending church and visiting with the guys at men's coffee.

He will be missed by many in the community; but especially by his wife of 55 years Marie, at their Dayton home; and his two daughters; Dianna and Teresa McCauley both living in Spokane. Wally was preceded in death by his parents.
