Walter E. Brooks Obituary

Walter Evan Brooks Jr. (89) was born in Sturgis, S.D. March 9, 1929, and passed away May 17, 2018 at Avalon Care Center in Pullman, WA.  At the age of 12 he was sent to the Washington coast to see if there were openings in the mechanical field for his father which he found to be available. They sold the family farm, and everything they had to make the move, but unfortunately Walter E. Brooks Sr died. So Walter Jr along with his 2 brothers Jim and Billy, and his mother moved to Chehalis, WA.
After high school Walter joined the Marines and after a short stint moved on to college. Eventually he migrated to Spokane, WA as a cook at the Spokane bus terminal. He met Ethel Pickard on a blind date and they were married shortly after.
After his daughter Sheila was born he began studying the Bible and became a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses.  His happiest times were in the ministry, cooking at large conventions and Kingdom Hall constructions. His larger than life personality was shown in his infectious laugh and quick jokes. His love of people endeared him to everyone he met. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Ethel, daughter Sheila, brother Billy Dean Brooks, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen and Irene, and his brother Jim. He was a teacher, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather to many in his spiritual family.  Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.  The memorial celebration will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the University Inn Best Western, 1516 Pullman Rd., in Moscow, ID.
