Walter Weichaus, long time Elberton resident, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Whitman Hospital in Colfax. He was 93. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 22nd at 10:00 am in the Colfax Cemetery. Pastor Bob Ingalls will officiate. Walter was born July 21, 1919 in Warden, Washington to Martin and Martha Dulkie Weichaus. He grew up and attended school at Elberton (near Garfield). He spent his lifetime in Elberton, helping on the family's small farm. He worked side by side with his brother Robert and together they raised large gardens and shared their bounty with as many as they could. Walter especially enjoyed working with the livestock including cows, sheep and goats. He was an avid gardener. He never married. Walter is survived by a niece Patty Holzmeyer and a nephew, Mike Betcher as well as close friends and neighbors; Rebecca & Gordon Hemphill, Roger Guiney, Linda Hurley, John Elwood and Maureen Byrne.
