Obituary

Wanda Jo Glessner, 73, passed away suddenly in the dawn hours of September 9, 2024 at Pullman Regional Hospital, in Pullman, WA, after an abbreviated and brave battle with cancer.   She was born in Yakima, Washington on March 13, 1951 to Thomas and Wilma Ragan. She spent her childhood on the Congdon Orchard Ranch where her parents cared for apple trees and bees. She was very active in the 7th Day Adventist Church and played piano for Sabbath Services. She also attended the 7th Day Adventist Columbia Academy in Battle Ground, WA. Wanda spent a lot of time in the Cascade Mountains camping, fishing, & ice skating with her family. After leaving her Congdon Orchard home, she was a stay at home mom of two daughters, Lashel, born in 1969 and Rashel, born in 1974. Ten years later she met the love of her life, Terry Glessner, of Yakima and the family of four settled in East Selah, Washington. The two loved riding motorcycles and were very active in the motorcycle community in Yakima during the 80's & 90's. The friends they made during that time became family, particularly Steve & Jeanie Lidke of Yakima WA, who became lifelong friends. Wanda spent much of her life working in the food service & hospitality industry. She worked at Norma Jean's Cafe in Selah WA, at the Red Rooster in Wenatchee WA, ran The Coal Country Inn in Roslyn WA, catered events for the Northern Exposure tv series cast, and was a chef for Pi Beta Phi, Beta Theta Pi, & Kappa Delta at the Washington State University Pullman Campus. In her retirement, she painted, created dried flower arrangements and art, and loved growing plants in her garden. She travelled regularly with Terry in their van to friend-filled vanning parties. She was a member of the Poison Ivy Van club and the Northwest Vanning community. She loved jewelry and pretty dresses and was especially known for her long white hair. She hosted a van party once per year and, alongside Terry, she served amazing food to all who attended. She had 5 cats whom she loved and cared for very much. She adored her 1920 Endicott WA home which was brimming with flowers and gardens and which she had decorated in her signature eclectic style. Wanda was surprised in May of 2024 by a diagnosis of peritoneal carcinamatosis. She diligently followed her doctors' instructions and tried very hard to heal her body. By the time her health care team agreed upon a plan, her disease had taken too big of a toll on her body and she ended up in intensive care in Pullman WA, where she passed away peacefully with her loved ones at her side. She is survived by her husband, Terry Glessner of Endicott WA, her daughters, Lashel Church of Yakima WA and Rashel Fitchett of Winthrop WA, and her step daughters, Rhiannon Maier of Ransom KS & Sharona Fondoble of Ellis KS. She has 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Ragan of Yakima; her mother Wilma Ragan of Yakima; her brothers Ted & Tony Ragan of Yakima; and her granddaughter Mary Elizabeth.  Corbeill Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
