Obituary

On Monday, March 13, 2017, William Robert (Bill) Bierbaum, 91, longtime Pullman resident, passed away at home, ending his long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy. He is survived by his two sons Keith (with his wife Judy) and Bruce (with his wife Mariana), 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He made a career of working in universities. From 1950 to 1953, he was a student advisor at University of Illinois. In 1953, he moved to Washington State University (WSU) to work as a Program Advisor. 1957 saw him relocate family, home and culture to the University of New Mexico (UNM). Starting as the Student Union Director, he eventually headed up all auxiliaries and services. He left UNM for WSU in 1975 where he was Director of College Housing. He was proud of his best work -- the married student housing units, Chinook, at the south end of the University. During his time at WSU, he served as Rotary Club President. He was well known in college housing and served as President of the International College Housing Association. He left the University to travel, with his wife, from Europe to the South Pacific. He joked that he had outlived his friends and he'd also outlive his enemies. He was a leader by example and in his own words, "tried to be a good person." He was. He will be missed. The world needs more people like him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. No local services will be held. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, WA has been entrusted with arrangements.
