William "Bill" Hayes Hopkins (72) died after a long illness on May 14, 2016, in Pullman, WA. Born in Moscow, Idaho, on August 5, 1943, Bill was the only child of the late Bert Earl Hopkins and Marie Hayes Hopkins.
He is survived by his former wife, Sister Brendan Dymphna, former wife, Rachel Pomeroy Feher, and their five children, Christine Hopkins, Elizabeth Hopkins Stevens (Graham), Amelia Hopkins, William Hopkins (Jessica), and Gillie Hopkins, as well as his "Fresh Air Son" Vardell Hughes. He also leaves six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Bill attended Loomis Preparatory School, Yale University, and Vanderbilt Law School. He settled in Plymouth, NH for his professional career. There, Bill practiced law, raised his children and was pivotal in the lives of countless children by opening his home and his heart. Bill loved the White Mountains, his children, food, and travel. He was an avid duplicate bridge player and a certified wine educator. He also forged strong bonds with his pets throughout his lifetime. When he moved to Pullman in 2013, his cat, Bacchus, accompanied him as a faithful friend and companion. His family is tremendously grateful to the staff and caregivers at Regency Pullman (formerly the Whitman Senior Living Community) who have helped care for him over the past three years.
